10 per cent is the norm, but seeing as how you're likely to be paying a good deal less for great food, wine and service that you would almost anywhere else, feel free to go a bit higher.

Simon is right that 10% is the norm, and you should consider more for good service. Certain restaurants though impose a mandatory tip for bills or parties over a set amount.

However please also don't feel you must tip, there is no rule that says you must tip bad service.
